Maker of the Month – August

Jillian Riley

Jillian has been involved in art related professions for many years and it was the love of ceramics which has allowed her to pull together all her creative skills into one passion.

She draws inspiration from the natural world; particularly ravens and magpies and mythology. The relationship between the natural world and found objects has fuelled the creation of a collection of bottles with a twist!

She uses found scientific, poison and apothecary bottles from which she creates moulds. She then casts these bottles using porcelain or parian clay. These bottles are decorated with oxides and her own illustrations of bugs and poisonous plants. She uses reclaimed woods , which she turns , to make stoppers that then support sculpted birds and animals.

Each bottle is finished with sterling silver, copper or re-purposed items, making each piece totally unique.
