Maker of the Month – November

Simon Shaw

Simon studied at the Wirral College of Art and Design and then at Braintree College Essex. After his studies he found work in a number of workshops in the UK. Later he went on to work abroad for several years returning to Merseyside in 1997 to set up his own Studio.

He mainly hand throws or uses extruded shapes to make his ceramics, using a mixture of Stoneware Clay with Porcelain, Raku Clay and glass additions. His Barium Glazes give a textured, matt finish in a glorious mix of rich blues, turquoise and lilac colours.

This rich colour is a particular and distinctive characteristic of Simon’s work along side his fluid throwing style.
