Maker of the Month – June

Jennie Hale

Jennie Hale went to Loughborough College of Art and Design and achieved a BA Hons in Ceramics. On leaving college she went to work as an assistant to Marianne de Trey CBE.  Jennie and her husband Andrew Osborne were offered the chance to set up a pottery in an isolated Devon farmstead set in a wooded valley. Her fascination with the natural world that had been with her since childhood was now able to be fully explored, working and living so close to nature. Here she was able to seek out moments to capture in clay and slip, paint and words.

In 2017 Jennie moved to a purpose-built studio in Cornwall beside Colliford Lake. This new landscape presented new and exciting creatures to inspire her.

Jennies work is collected across the world by private collectors, corporations and museums. Here in Gwalia ceramics we have a number of her sculptural pieces as well as the domestic ware.

Our Maker of the Month will be a  more detailed introduction to the Maker, describing their career path,  inspiration and techniques. Each month a different Maker from the Gallery will be selected to showcase their talents.
